Records
The Latah County Sheriff's Records Office is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. They can be reached through dispatch at (208) 882-2216.
Records Checks
Requests for Records Checks go through the Records Office. We are only able to check local records on an individual for which we have a signed waiver. No records checks are done over the telephone. For statewide checks, you will need to contact the Department of Law Enforcement in Meridian. For national checks, you will need to submit fingerprints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Sheriff's Office is not able to release information about cases from other agencies.
To request a Records Check, come to the Records Office between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with the full name and date of birth of the person in question along with a waiver for release of information signed by the person in question. The request will either be processed at that time or you will be asked to return for that information.
If you are applying for a Visa or residency in another country, you will need to contact the State of Idaho Department of Law Enforcement for a Records Check that will meet your needs. By mail send $5.00 along with your full name, date of birth and social security number to:

Requests for Reports
Request to Examine Public Records (PDF to print and fill out) - The request may be brought into the office, mailed to the office, or faxed to 208-883-2281.
If you reported an incident and you need proof of that report for your insurance, we will provide you with the information needed by your insurance company. All requests for reports must be made on a Freedom of Information Act Request form or in writing, by FAX or mail.
If you need a copy of an accident report, there is no charge. An accident report is generated by the Latah County Sheriff's Office when a Deputy responds to an accident and determines that it requires a report. If an accident was not reported at the time of the accident, there is nothing we can do to investigate the accident at a later date. A Deputy generates a report when needed to show the cause of an accident and to determine if there was a violation of Idaho Law. The accident report does not determine fault.
If you need a copy of an incident report, there is no charge. The most common request of this type is by insurance companies for their records. If you are part of an active misdemeanor case, go through your attorney for whatever information you need on that case through "Discovery".
Offender Registration
Sex Offenders who need to register should contact the Records Office during regular office hours if possible. Two forms will need to be completed and fingerprint cards will need to be completed. Once we have the necessary information, a camera card will have to be taken to Driver Licensing, by the offender, for completion. The Records Office is open 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.
New rules for registration come into affect July 1, 1998. If you are required to register and have not received information about the new requirements, contact the Department of Law Enforcement in the county you live in to be sure you are in compliance. A letter will be sent out to those people who are currently registered that will outline the new requirements. As of July 1, 2007, there will be a $40.00 fee to cover the costs of registration. People who need to register should bring in exact change.

Concealed Weapon Permits
You will need to pick up an application and an information sheet at the front window. Bring back the completed form along with proof of firearms training and $56.00 during fingerprint hours, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office. The permit process will be completed within 90 days of your application, but most applications take less time than that.
To renew a Concealed Weapon Permit, you need to pick up an application and information sheet at the front window. Bring back the completed form along with $22.00 at any time. The permit process will be completed within 90 days of your application, but most applications take less time than that.
People who have convictions for Domestic Battery are not allowed to possess firearms under Federal Law. The Latah County Sheriff's Office will not issue Concealed Weapon Permits to those individuals.
Changes to Idaho Law will exclude more people from possessing firearms. Those people who are not allowed to possess firearms by law will not be issued Concealed Weapon Permits. The new changes will start July 1, 1998 and primarily deal with felony convictions.
